Ryan Kinsey, Social Security Fraud, Arkansas 2021

A Beebe man has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for defrauding the Social Security Administration out of more than $20,000 in disability payments.

Ryan Kinsey, 35, was sentenced yesterday by United States District Judge Lee P. Rudofsky for Social Security fraud and making materially false statements following a trial in July 2021.

In 2013, Kinsey began receiving Social Security benefits claiming to be disabled due to bipolar disorder, heart issues, post-traumatic stress disorder, and knee issues. However, a jury found that he was actually working full-time on his family’s farm operation after his father passed away in 2017.

Kinsey’s farm work involved buying and selling horses, farm maintenance, and marketing the business. He received more than $100,000 in payments for his ranching activities in the 15 months prior to his indictment, while also fraudulently collecting over $20,000 from the SSA.

According to the SSA, Kinsey was initially entitled to disability payments but should have stopped receiving them in 2017 when he began working. He received a total of $20,530 in Social Security payments from 2017 until his payments were terminated in 2019, which Judge Rudofsky ordered him to pay in restitution.

Kinsey was also sentenced to three years of supervised release following his term of imprisonment.

The case was investigated by the Social Security Administration – Office of the Inspector General Cooperative Disability Investigations Unit. Assistant United States Attorney Bart Dickinson prosecuted the case for the United States.
