Local Man Charged with Attempted Coercion of a Minor for Sex

A resident of McKees Rocks, PA, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity, Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman announced today.

The one-count Indictment named Ryan Peters, 31, formerly of McKees Rocks, PA, as the sole defendant.

According to the Indictment, from on or about August 26, 2021, until on or about September 13, 2021, Peters attempted to coerce and entice a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity.

The law provides for a term of imprisonment of not less than ten years and not more than life in prison, a fine not greater than $250,000.00, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense(s) and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Peters is currently in custody at Allegheny County Jail. Assistant United States Attorney Benjamin J. Risacher is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the Indictment in this case.

An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
