A Shreveport jury will not convene in this case, as the crime was committed online. Sach Kevin Vu, a 32-year-old Texan, pleaded guilty to attempting to entice a minor into producing a pornographic video.
According to evidence presented during the guilty plea, an undercover officer posing as a 16-year-old girl responded to an online advertisement seeking models for a photo shoot on February 7, 2014. Vu, who was from Arlington, Texas, began communicating with the officer, setting up a meeting in Haynesville, Louisiana, where he planned to produce the video.
The details of the planned sex acts were discussed beforehand, and Vu was arrested on February 20, 2014, after traveling to Haynesville from Texas. Sex toys and camera equipment were found in his vehicle.
Vu faces 10 years to life in prison, not less than five years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. He is also required to register as a sex offender.
A sentencing date of February 9, 2015, was set. The FBI and the Claiborne Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth D. Reeg is prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
