Francisco Mariano Orantes, a 33-year-old Sacramento man, has pleaded guilty to sexually exploiting at least seven minor female victims over social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram. Between 2023 and 2024, Orantes used his cellphones to impersonate a teenage girl, gaining the trust of his victims before coercing them into producing explicit images and videos. Orantes would often send his victims sexually explicit content and threaten to share their images with others if they didn’t comply with his demands.
One victim reported that Orantes discovered her school and address, using this information to threaten her into sending more explicit material. Law enforcement later found evidence of Orantes using geolocation tools to identify his victims’ locations and saved text files containing threats to share their images with others. Another victim stated that Orantes knew her full name and address and threatened to leak her images if she didn’t comply with his instructions.
Orantes was found in possession of over 11,000 images and 14,000 videos of child sex abuse material, including content showing the abuse of infants and toddlers. The investigation was conducted by the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit of the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The guilty plea is a significant step towards justice for the victims of Orantes’ exploitation. The case highlights the dangers of online predators and the importance of law enforcement efforts to protect minors from exploitation.
