A brazen crew of thieves, led by Jonathan Curl, 36, of Sacramento, stole more than 700 rectifiers from Northern California’s telecommunications towers, shipping the loot to states like Illinois, Colorado, and Texas.
Curl, working with co-conspirators Trevor Fountain, Stephan Evanovich, and Andrea Carter, used inside info to break into towers and swipe the valuable equipment, which powers communication networks.
The group sold the stolen goods to unsuspecting vendors, raking in over $282,000 in the process.
Curl pleaded guilty on January 8, 2026, and was sentenced to two years in prison, ordered to pay $282,193 in restitution.
Co-conspirators Carter and Fountain face their own sentencing hearings, while Evanovich awaits his fate, facing up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
