Sacramento supermarket owner Shahriar “Sean” Loloee, 55, of Granite Bay, is going down for multiple federal fraud schemes, including labor and tax crimes.
Loloee, a former Sacramento City Council member, used Viva Supermarket, a Sacramento-area supermarket chain, as a front for his crimes, which spanned from 2008 to 2020.
He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to obstruct a Department of Labor investigation, one count of conspiracy to defraud the IRS, three counts of filing false tax returns, one count of wire fraud, and one count of money laundering.
As part of the scheme, Loloee and others knowingly employed undocumented workers, then took steps to discourage them from cooperating with Labor Department investigators.
Loloee also created a secret payment system, using cash and an in-house check system called “Green Checks” to make hidden payments to undocumented workers and himself.
