BAY CITY — In a chilling blow to the fentanyl epidemic, Patrick Chamberlain, 25, of Saginaw, was last week sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl. U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. and Acting DEA Special Agent in Charge Andrew Lawton stood united in the announcement.
Chamberlain’s sentence was imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas L. Ludington following his guilty plea on charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl. The court documents revealed a sinister operation where Chamberlain orchestrated the shipment of nearly three kilograms of fentanyl pills directly to his own doorstep in December 2022. This discovery was merely the tip of the iceberg, as authorities uncovered multiple similar shipments throughout the year.
“Fentanyl is a plague on the American people,” Gorgon stated, his tone laced with determination. “We will do all that we can to fight this deadly drug and save precious lives.” Lawton echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the message sent by Chamberlain’s sentencing: traffickers of fentanyl and other lethal substances face accountability.
Chamberlain’s downfall began when the DEA and United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) intercepted a package containing the deadly pills. The investigation unearthed a conspiracy involving Chamberlain and others, who systematically shipped fentanyl pills to Michigan. Upon receiving the packages, Chamberlain would then distribute them throughout Bay City.
This relentless pursuit of justice was achieved through a collaborative effort by the DEA, USPIS, Michigan State Police Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney William Orr prosecuted the case with unwavering dedication.
