Samantha Blume, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Pennsylvania 2019

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania – In a shocking turn of events, Samantha Blume, a 30-year-old woman from Frackville, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the distribution of methamphetamine in Schuylkill County. The crime took place in February 2019, with Blume admitting to her role in the highly-pure crystal methamphetamine trafficking ring.

According to Acting United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Blume’s involvement in the methamphetamine trafficking ring was a significant blow to the community. The indictment, which was handed down in September 2019, charged Blume and her then-boyfriend, Shaquane Scott, with methamphetamine trafficking. Scott, also 31, was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment on June 23, 2021, for his role in the crime.

The case against Blume is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. O’Hara. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force.

Blume faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison for her crime. The maximum sentence under federal law is up to 40 years in prison, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. The judge will also consider various factors, including the nature and seriousness of the offense, the history and characteristics of the defendant, and the need to punish the defendant, protect the public, and provide for the defendant’s educational, vocational, and medical needs.

The charge carries significant penalties, and Blume’s sentence will be determined by the court. A presentence report has been ordered, and sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. The program brings together all levels of law enforcement to develop effective, locally-based strategies to reduce crime.
