Tahj Thomas, Federal Drug and Gun Violations, Pennsylvania 2021

A resident of Penn Hills has been charged with violating federal narcotic and firearm laws, according to Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman.

Tahj Thomas, a 23-year-old Penn Hills resident, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of violating federal narcotic and firearm laws.

According to the indictment, Thomas possessed with intent to distribute a quantity of a mixture and substance containing detectable amounts of fluorofentanyl, fentanyl, and tramadol on August 25, 2021. He also possessed a firearm and ammunition despite being a convicted felon on the same date.

Under federal law, possessing a firearm and/or ammunition is a violation of federal law for those who have previously been convicted of a crime punishable by greater than a year in prison.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not more than 20 years, a fine of $1,000,000.00 or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan J. McKenna is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The Monroeville Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.

An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
