Samuel Rodriguez, Drug Trafficking, Pennsylvania 2023

Grimy Times Exclusive:

WILLIAMSPORT – In a significant blow to the Northumberland County drug trade, 27-year-old Samuel Rodriguez was sentenced to 96 months’ imprisonment to be followed by four years of supervised release by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Matthew W. Brann, for his role in a massive drug conspiracy.

According to Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, Rodriguez pleaded guilty to distributing more than 50 grams of methamphetamine from October 2022 to February 2023, in Northumberland County. In total, Rodriguez distributed approximately 270 grams, approximately 1,350 single doses, of methamphetamine and 29 grams, approximately 1,000 single doses of fentanyl.

Co-defendant, Paris DeSimone, was previously sentenced to 42 months’ imprisonment followed by four years of supervised release. This case is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of the opioid crisis on our communities.

The investigation into Rodriguez’s activities was a collaborative effort between the Pennsylvania State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alisan V. Martin successfully prosecuted the case.

This case is also part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

On May 26, 2021, the U.S. Attorney’s Office launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.

As Grimy Times continues to expose the dark underbelly of our society, we will remain vigilant in our pursuit of truth and justice. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
