ABINGDON, Virginia – A federal grand jury has indicted Samuel Silva, a 45-year-old inmate at United States Penitentiary, Lee County, for the premeditated murder of his cellmate in September 2018.
The indictment, announced by Acting United States Attorney Daniel P. Bubar and David W. Archey, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Richmond Division, charges Silva with one count of willfully, deliberately, maliciously, and with premeditation killing Abraham Aldana, his cellmate at the time, by stabbing him in September 2018.
Silva is accused of committing the heinous crime while being housed at the federal prison. An investigation into the case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Acting United States Attorney Daniel P. Bubar and Assistant United States Attorneys Zachary T. Lee, Daniel J. Murphy, and Aaron Stewart, a Trial Attorney with the Capital Case Unit.
An indictment is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
