WASHINGTON – Eduardo Alberto Zelaya Vides, 31, of San Diego, California, was sentenced today in the District of Columbia to 108 months in prison after repeatedly distributing child sexual abuse materials online.
According to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, Zelaya Vides pleaded guilty on February 7, 2025, to one count of distribution of child pornography. The judge also ordered him to serve 15 years of supervised release, register as a sex offender, and pay $106,500 in restitution to the victims.
“Zelaya Vides was an active participant in an online chatroom where he shared and encouraged others to distribute child porn,” said FBI Assistant Director in Charge Steven J. Jensen. The chatroom was specifically created for discussing the sexual exploitation of children and sharing child pornography, with members required to post such content to gain entry.
Law enforcement arrested Zelaya Vides on May 10, 2024, recovering more than 2,000 digital files depicting child sexual abuse from his home. He admitted participating in the chatroom and uploading images to it, despite knowing that the images depicted minors under 18 years old.
This case was investigated by the FBI Washington Field Office’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen L. Shinskie as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative. The initiative aims to protect children from online exploitation and abuse, identifying and prosecuting those who exploit them via the Internet.
