A 42-year-old man from Saratoga Springs, New York, has been slapped with decades in prison for committing heinous crimes involving child pornography.
Christopher Barry, 42, of Saratoga Springs, New York, pled guilty to receiving child pornography.
Between June 2021 and January 2022, Barry received images of prepubescent minors, and on February 9, 2023, he was found in possession of two phones containing child pornography.
Barry will be sentenced on August 27, 2024, by United States District Judge Anne M. Nardacci. He faces at least 5 years and up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life.
The court may also impose a fine, restitution, and forfeiture of the phones Barry used to commit his offenses. A defendant’s sentence is imposed by a judge based on the particular statute the defendant is charged with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.
This case is a stark reminder of the dangers of child exploitation and the importance of law enforcement agencies working tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice. The investigation was led by the Buffalo Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), with Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander P. Wentworth-Ping prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood.
Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006, aimed at combating the rising threat of child sex trafficking and exploitation. Through this initiative, federal, state, and local resources are marshaled to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet.
