In a major blow to the city’s streets, James Alvin Boone, a 29-year-old Schenectady man, has been hit with a string of serious charges, including conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances.
According to the indictment, Boone was involved in a massive cocaine trafficking operation that spanned over a year, from January 14, 2023, to March 25, 2024. During this time, he allegedly distributed and possessed fentanyl and cocaine on multiple occasions.
The charges against Boone are nothing short of serious. He faces a mandatory minimum prison term of 15 years and a maximum term of life, a fine of up to $10 million, and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life.
The indictment also seeks the forfeiture of a pistol, over $27,000 in U.S. currency, and nearly $40,000 worth of jewelry, which were allegedly used in furtherance of the crime.
Boone’s arrest comes after a thorough investigation by the DEA, with assistance from the Colonie Police Department, Schenectady Police Department, and New York State Police.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikayla Espinosa is prosecuting the case, which is the latest in a string of crackdowns on cocaine trafficking in the area.
The charges against Boone are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. However, with the evidence mounting against him, it’s clear that the odds are stacked against him.
As the city continues to grapple with the scourge of cocaine trafficking, the indictment of James Alvin Boone is a welcome development. It shows that law enforcement is taking a tough stance against those who would seek to peddle this deadly substance on our streets.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of cocaine trafficking, and the importance of working together to keep our communities safe.
