281 Charged with Reentry After Deportation in Arizona, 2023

Arizona’s porous border continues to be a breeding ground for illegal immigration, with 281 individuals charged in May with illegal reentry after deportation, according to a recent report from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

Of the 281 individuals charged, 230 had previously been convicted of non-immigration criminal offenses in the U.S. The numbers are staggering, with 56 individuals having violent crime convictions, including 3 individuals with homicide convictions, 7 individuals with sex offense convictions, and 14 individuals with domestic violence convictions.

Additionally, 19 individuals had property crime convictions, 45 individuals had DUI convictions, and 123 individuals had drug crime convictions. The sheer scale of these convictions highlights the severity of the issue and the need for stricter border controls.

The report also notes that 149 of the 281 individuals had been deported three or more times, emphasizing the fact that many of those charged have previously attempted to re-enter the country despite being deported multiple times.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona has been at the forefront of combating immigration crimes, and these numbers demonstrate the office’s commitment to enforcing the law and protecting American citizens.

The report also touches on the issue of alien smuggling, with 41 individuals charged in May with alien smuggling. This highlights the complex web of crimes that often accompany immigration offenses, and the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing these issues.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who break the law are held accountable, and that our borders are protected from those who would seek to exploit our system.
