Assault Victim Left with Broken Jaw and Cracked Tooth
A federal jury found Sean Conklin, 35, of New Town, N.D., guilty of assault resulting in serious bodily injury on April 18, 2012.
On March 1, 2013, U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland sentenced Conklin to three years and nine months in federal prison, to be followed by two years of supervised release.
Conklin was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim’s Fund.
The assault occurred on April 13, 2010, at the Four Bears Casino and Lodge near New Town, N.D. An employee of a Bismarck excavating company was struck in the face by Conklin as he was leaving the bar to go to his hotel room.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Indian Affairs – Fort Berthold Agency, the Three Affiliated Tribes Police Department and the Four Bears Casino Security.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Volk prosecuted the case.
Sean Conklin’s sentence is a result of his violent actions that left the victim with a broken jaw and a cracked tooth.
The maximum sentence for assault resulting in serious bodily injury is 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
