Sean Kingston, $1 Million Fraud, Miami FL, 2025

MIAMI – R&B singer Sean Kingston, 35, will spend the next 3.5 years behind bars after a federal jury convicted him of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud. Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, and his mother orchestrated a scheme that bilked luxury merchandise vendors out of over $1 million, prosecutors revealed. The pair targeted high-end goods, including a bulletproof Escalade, expensive watches, and a massive 232-inch LED television.

The scheme, operating between April 2023 and March 2024, relied on Kingston’s celebrity to gain the trust of sellers. Anderson would contact victims via social media, arranging purchases and inviting them to his luxury homes in Broward County. He dangled promises of social media promotion and name-dropped famous potential clients, all to secure the deals without any intention of paying. It was a calculated con, leveraging fame for financial gain.

Janice Eleanor Turner, 62, Kingston’s mother, played a crucial role in the fraud. She was responsible for creating and distributing fake wire receipts to the vendors, falsely proving payment had been made. These receipts were designed to appear legitimate, masking the fact that no actual funds were ever transferred. Turner received a five-year federal prison sentence on July 23rd for her involvement.

Victims often found themselves empty-handed, despite believing they had secured payment. Many were forced to file lawsuits or contact law enforcement just to recoup some of their losses. While some eventually received partial reimbursement after legal pressure, the majority were left with nothing. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, along with the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) Miami Field Office and the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), jointly investigated the case.

“This wasn’t a case of a struggling artist; it was a deliberate and calculated scheme to defraud,” stated a source close to the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Kingston and Turner used their positions and resources to prey on legitimate businesses, and they’re now facing the consequences.” The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Marc Anton and Trevor Jones.

The case, numbered 24-cr-60126 in the District Court for the Southern District of Florida, serves as a stark reminder that celebrity status offers no protection from the law. The Secret Service continues to prioritize investigations into fraud and financial crimes, protecting both businesses and consumers from predatory schemes.
