Ackley, Iowa Man Lands 3-Month Prison Sentence for Illegally Reentering the Country
Secundino Garcia-Lopez, a 37-year-old citizen of Guatemala, has been sentenced to 102 days in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. Garcia-Lopez was found to have previously been deported in August 2012 and had reentered the country without permission.
Garcia-Lopez pleaded guilty in June 2024 to one count of illegal reentry into the United States. He was arrested on state charges and later found at the Mitchell County Jail. Immigration officials learned of his presence in the country on April 23, 2024.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel C. Tvedt and investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations. Garcia-Lopez will also serve a one-year term of supervised release after his prison sentence.
Garcia-Lopez is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be turned over to immigration officials. There is no parole in the federal system.
