
Grimy Times has learned that Sergio Galvez-Velazquez, a 40-year-old Mexican national, has pleaded guilty to using a stolen Social Security number to obtain a Louisiana Identification Card from the Louisiana DMV office in Houma.
According to court documents, Galvez-Velazquez illegally obtained the ID by using a Social Security number that did not belong to him. This is a serious offense that can have severe consequences for those who commit it.
Galvez-Velazquez faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years, a maximum fine of $250,000, a maximum term of supervised release of three years, and a mandatory $100 special assessment.
The U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Louisiana has been working diligently to bring those responsible for such crimes to justice. In this case, U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, in investigating this matter.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Spiro G. Latsis is in charge of the prosecution. The sentencing hearing is set for May 4, 2016, before U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance.
