Martin, SD – Edwin Johnson, a 62-year-old man, has been sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment for sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in Bennett County.
According to court documents, Johnson had sexual intercourse with the minor on over 50 occasions in 2010 and 2011.
Johnson was indicted by a federal grand jury on November 19, 2012, and pleaded guilty to the charge on April 18, 2013.
U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced the sentencing, which was handed down by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on August 2, 2013.
In addition to the 5-year prison sentence, Johnson was also ordered to pay $542.40 in restitution and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The case was investigated by the Martin Police Department, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Johnson was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal after the sentencing. The case serves as a reminder of the severity of sex crimes and the importance of protecting our children.
