A 21-year-old Fort Apache man has been sentenced to 336 months in federal prison for his role in the sexual abuse of two minors on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. Jerome Remijo Reano, of Whiteriver, Arizona, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Susan R. Bolton on April 18, 2016, following a guilty plea to one count of sexual abuse.
According to investigators, Reano’s abuse of the two victims occurred on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation, where both the victims and Reano resided. The investigation, conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the White Mountain Apache Tribal Police Department, revealed the extent of Reano’s crimes.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Anthony W. Church handled the prosecution in the case, which garnered widespread attention for its disturbing nature. Reano’s sentence, 28 years in prison, will be followed by a lifetime of supervised release.
