A Neopit man was sentenced to 22 years in prison for sexually abusing a child.
Myron J. Penass, 21, of Neopit, was sentenced to 262 months of imprisonment, followed by 20 years on supervised release, after pleading guilty to four counts of engaging in a sex act with a person incapable of appraising the nature of the conduct.
The abuse occurred at a residence on the Menominee Indian Reservation in 2013. The victim, a 7-year-old girl, was subjected to sexual assault by Penass, who admitted to the abuse.
The case was investigated by the Menominee Tribal Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Benjamin L. Whittemore.
Penass’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing bring an end to a horrific chapter in the life of the young victim and her family.
U.S. Attorney James L. Santelle praised the efforts of law enforcement agencies involved in the case, stating that ‘the sentence imposed today reflects the serious nature of the crimes committed by Mr. Penass.’
The Menominee Tribal Police and the FBI worked tirelessly to bring Penass to justice, and their efforts have ensured that he will face the consequences of his actions for many years to come.
