Cheektowaga Man Sentenced for Enticement of a Minor

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A local man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity. Salvatore Tantillo, II, 32, of Cheektowaga, N.Y., was convicted of the crime and sentenced to 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release by U.S. District Court Judge Richard J. Arcara.

Tantillo met the 16-year-old victim over the internet, misrepresented his age to her, and eventually met her in person for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity. This act is a direct violation of New York State Penal Law, which prohibits individuals over the age of 21 from engaging in sexual intercourse with those under the age of 16.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. This initiative brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The sentencing is the culmination of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Cheektowaga Police Department, and the Lancaster Police Department. Special Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, members of the Cheektowaga Police Department under the direction of Chief David Zack, and Lancaster Police Department, under the direction of Chief Gerald Gill, worked together to bring Tantillo to justice.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced the sentencing in a press release. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie P. Grisanti handled the case, stating that Tantillo’s actions were a serious violation of the law and a threat to the safety of our community’s children.

Tantillo’s sentence serves as a reminder that those who engage in such heinous crimes will be held accountable and face severe consequences. The community can rest a little easier knowing that this predator is behind bars.
