Thomas Encil Blake, Child Pornography Production and Receipt, Michigan 2023

DETROIT – Thomas Encil Blake, 28, of Brownstown, Michigan, will spend the next 19 years in federal prison after being sentenced to 228 months for the production and receipt of child pornography. Judge Laurie J. Michelson handed down the sentence today, a grim culmination of an investigation that revealed a depraved pattern of abuse and exploitation.

The case originated in 2023 when a concerned father discovered disturbing images on his 13-year-old daughter’s phone. These images, depicting an adult male, triggered an investigation that quickly led authorities to Blake. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) took the lead, identifying Blake as a resident of Southeast Michigan. A February 2024 raid on his home uncovered a digital cesspool: over 8,000 images and 6,000 videos of child pornography, including sickening depictions of infants, toddlers, and even bestiality.

Blake readily admitted to downloading and distributing this vile content through social messaging applications. But the horror didn’t stop at mere possession. Investigators discovered that Blake frequently babysat for families within his circle, and alarmingly, among those he cared for were children as young as 5 and 6 years old. A forensic examination of Blake’s iPhone revealed even more disturbing evidence: videos and images documenting Blake committing sex acts on these vulnerable children while they were asleep.

“This wicked man produced the vilest materials,” stated U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon. “He committed appalling crimes against little children that were entrusted to his care. And then he was ensnared by the work of his hands. We are thankful for the justice that was delivered through this court.” Blake received 60 months for receipt of child pornography, to be served concurrently with the 228-month sentence for production of child pornography with the six-year-old victim.

Matthew Stentz, Acting Special Agent in Charge of HSI-Detroit, echoed the sentiment, vowing continued vigilance against sexual predators. “We will hold sexual predators accountable for the torment they inflict on innocent children,” Stentz said. “Our HSI special agents will continue to investigate crimes of exploitation in collaboration with our law enforcement partners. We are working everyday toward justice for the victims and survivors of these crimes wherever they may be.”

The investigation was spearheaded by Homeland Security Investigations, with prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorneys Zachary Zurek and Ann Nee. Jessica Nathan is handling restitution matters. This case serves as a stark reminder of the hidden predators among us and the importance of relentless pursuit of justice for the most vulnerable among us.
