BRIDGEPORT, CT – Ross DeLibro, 54, of Shelton, Connecticut, will spend the next 24 years of his life behind bars after being sentenced today for the horrific production and possession of child sex abuse material. U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill handed down the 288-month sentence, followed by a decade of supervised release, in federal court in Bridgeport. The sentence reflects the gravity of DeLibro’s crimes and the profound harm inflicted upon the victims depicted in the images and videos.
The investigation, initiated in March 2024 by the Connecticut State Police Computer Crimes Unit, traced the sharing of deeply disturbing content over a peer-to-peer network back to an IP address registered to DeLibro’s Shelton residence. What began as a cybercrime investigation quickly unearthed a far more sinister reality. Authorities discovered DeLibro wasn’t just a downloader; he was a producer of the vile material.
Adding a layer of chilling betrayal, investigators learned DeLibro had been employed as a preschool teacher and in-home nanny since at least 2007, working with vulnerable young children across Connecticut. He actively sought nanny positions through legitimate online employment platforms, presenting a facade of trustworthiness to unsuspecting families. DeLibro held a degree in early childhood education – a qualification he grotesquely abused.
A court-authorized search of DeLibro’s home on May 1, 2024, yielded a trove of digital evidence: an Apple MacBook Air, an iPhone, an external hard drive, and other devices. Forensic analysis revealed numerous image and video files depicting the sexual abuse of male children. Most disturbingly, two images showed DeLibro himself engaging in sexually explicit conduct with a toddler – a scene that prosecutors described as particularly depraved and damaging.
DeLibro has been detained since his arrest on related state charges on June 11, 2024. He pleaded guilty on May 15, 2025, to both production of child pornography and possession of child pornography, acknowledging his culpability in the creation and accumulation of the horrific content. U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan praised the collaborative efforts of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Connecticut State Police, the Shelton Police Department, and the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection’s Division of Scientific Services in bringing DeLibro to justice.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Daniel George and Nancy Gifford prosecuted the case. This prosecution is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative, a nationwide effort to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation. Anyone with information about child exploitation is urged to report it to the CyberTipline at www.cybertipline.com. U.S. Attorney Sullivan also extended thanks to the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Ansonia/Milford for their cooperation.
