Lynn Michael LaVictor, 44, Sentenced to 355 Months for Sexual Assault in Sault Ste. Marie
A Sault Ste. Marie man has been sentenced to 355 months in prison for sexually assaulting his girlfriend in July last year, attempting to tamper with a witness, and contempt of court, a federal judge ruled.
U.S. District Court Judge R. Allan Edgar delivered the sentence, which will run concurrently, and also ordered Lynn Michael LaVictor to have no contact with the victim in the case.
The assault occurred last July, leaving the victim with injuries that required her to be transported by ambulance to the hospital, where she underwent surgery.
LaVictor repeatedly contacted the victim after his arrest, despite a no-contact order, in an attempt to influence her testimony.
A federal jury convicted LaVictor in December after a four-day trial, finding him guilty of the charges.
U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Miles, Jr. stated that fighting the victimization of women in Indian country is a top priority in the Western District of Michigan, and those who engage in such behavior will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The Sault Ste. Marie Tribal Police and the FBI investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jeff J. Davis and Hannah N. Bobee prosecuting the case.
