WASHINGTON – Saul Castillo-Crespo, 28, a Mexican citizen, has been charged with violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) and illegal re-entry into the United States. The charges were announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Castillo-Crespo was convicted in August 2017 in D.C. Superior Court for the kidnapping and sexual abuse of an intoxicated stranger in Northwest Washington, receiving a five-year prison sentence. He was deported to Mexico in January 2023 but illegally re-entered the country in March 2025. He failed to register as a sex offender and was arrested by local law enforcement in June.
Pirro called Castillo-Crespo a “poster boy for the kind of threat we are determined to remove from our community,” emphasizing the repeat nature of his illegal crossings and criminal behavior.
ICE discovered Castillo-Crespo’s illegal re-entry after he was arrested by MPD officers on June 27, 2025, charged with unlawful entry and destroying property. He used the alias “David Crespo” during his initial arrest. It was only on July 16, 2025, that fingerprints matched those of a previously deported alien.
The case against Castillo-Crespo details a harrowing attack on an intoxicated woman in downtown Washington. Castillo-Crespo lured her to his apartment building and sexually assaulted her after she repeatedly attempted to leave. His crime was captured on surveillance footage from the building.
This investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Metropolitan Police Department, with prosecution handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Satter and Kyle McWaters.
