Shane Marcus Lloyd, a 30-year-old man from Toppenish, Washington, and an enrolled member of the Confederated Bands and Tribes of the Yakama Nation, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for involuntary manslaughter.
According to court proceedings, Lloyd was driving under the influence on October 1, 2017, at approximately 5:00 a.m., when he ran a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle, resulting in injuries to one victim and the death of the other victim.
Lloyd had previously been charged with driving under the influence in March 2014 and had pled guilty to first degree negligent driving in November 2014, receiving a term of probation. However, a warrant was issued due to his alleged noncompliance with the conditions of his probation.
Law enforcement officers responded to the scene and smelled a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Lloyd’s person. Lloyd acknowledged that the accident was his fault.
The case was investigated by the Yakama Nation Police Department, the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington commends the law enforcement officers for their work on this case.
Shane Marcus Lloyd will serve 30 months in federal prison, followed by a 3-year term of court supervision after his release. A restitution hearing is currently scheduled for June 27, 2019.
