Shane Michael Green, Child Pornography, North Carolina 2013

A former Camp Lejeune employee has been sentenced to prison for downloading child pornography, according to court documents.

Shane Michael Green, 39, was sentenced to 108 months imprisonment followed by 20 years of supervised release in federal court on February 13, 2013.

Green pleaded guilty to downloading child pornography, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252(a)(2), on October 15, 2012.

According to the indictment, Green received a video of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct on October 24, 2009.

Law enforcement detected an IP address sharing images of child pornography in May 2011, which was tracked to a private network on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigated and found that Green had been downloading child pornography using a peer-to-peer file-sharing program while employed as a civilian firefighter at Camp Lejeune.

The case was part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, a national program aimed at ensuring that criminals exploiting children are effectively prosecuted.

The investigation was conducted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, with informational assistance provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Special Assistant United States Attorney Mark Griffith prosecuted the case.
