A 56-year-old man from Fort Covington, New York, has been sentenced to 189 months in prison for possessing child pornography.

Shannon Macauley, 56, was sentenced to 189 months in prison for possession of child pornography.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Matthew Scarpino, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Buffalo Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Macauley admitted to possessing 614 photographs and 109 videos of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

He had previously been convicted in state court of aggravated sexual abuse, sexual abuse, and abusive sexual conduct of minors, including six counts of sodomy with victims under the age of 15.

United States District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino also sentenced Macauley to 15 years of supervised release to begin after he serves his term of imprisonment. Upon release from prison, Macauley will also be required to register as a sex offender.

This case was investigated by HSI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Anderson as part of Project Safe Childhood.

Launched in May 2006, Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative designed to marshal federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The sentencing took place on an unspecified date in Plattsburgh, New York.
