Child Pornography Case: Shawnee Man Faces Five Years Behind Bars

A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Shawnee, Kansas, where a local man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for buying a membership to access a child pornography site on the internet.

Daryl Miller, 36, of Shawnee, pleaded guilty to one count of access with intent to view child pornography. This conviction has landed him a five-year prison sentence, with an additional fine of $5,000 under the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act.

This case began with an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) into the trafficking of child pornography on the Dark Web. The agency’s detectives in Washington, D.C., accessed a child pornography website that sold access to users and served a search warrant for the website’s server.

The investigation revealed that Miller had made 10 payments to the website in 2016 and 2017, using bitcoin virtual currency to make these transactions. A forensic analysis of electronic devices in Miller’s home confirmed that he had downloaded child pornography.
