A Louisville, Colorado man pleaded guilty to a firearm offense in New Hampshire federal court.
Shelby Theriault, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of an unregistered firearm in federal court in Concord, announced U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young.
Theriault was arrested on January 20, 2024, for unrelated theft offenses and found to be in possession of a sawed-off shotgun. He admitted to stealing the shotgun from a residence in New Hampshire and sawing down the barrel thereafter.
Theriault failed to register the sawed-off shotgun as required by the National Firearm Act.
The charging statute provides a sentence of no greater than 10 years in prison, 3 years of supervised release, and a fine of $10,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Conway Police Department led the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany Scanlon is prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Theriault is scheduled to be sentenced on December 18, 2024.
