Two Shelbyville, Kentucky heavyweights have been handed a life sentence after being found guilty of federal drug trafficking and firearms offenses. Benjamin Quintero Martinez, 31, and Rodolfo Reyes Martinez, 27, were convicted following a five-day trial for their involvement in a deadly fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine distribution ring.
The duo was caught with over 1 kilogram of fentanyl, including pills pressed from an illicit pill press. They also had more than 200 grams of meth and cocaine, as well as seven firearms to further their drug trafficking endeavors. Both men were prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions.
Quintero Martinez’s criminal history is a litany of drug-related offenses. He was previously convicted of trafficking in controlled substances, cocaine, methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Reyes Martinez has also been behind bars for his role in a complicity to escape charge.
The sentencing hearing is set for September 25, 2025, where they will face mandatory minimum sentences of 20 years for Quintero Martinez and 15 years for Reyes Martinez, with the possibility of life imprisonment. The ATF, USMS, and LMPD conducted the investigation that led to their convictions.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative targeting illegal immigration, cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and violent crime. Assistant United States Attorneys Frank Dahl and Josh Porter prosecuted the case with paralegal Adela Alic’s support.
Both defendants are now awaiting their fate in a federal system that offers no parole, ensuring they will spend the rest of their lives behind bars for their crimes against Kentucky communities.
