Schacht’s sentence is a harsh consequence for his double-dose of criminality: conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and conspiracy to transport illegal aliens for profit. The judge handed down concurrent sentences of 72 months for the drug charge and 24 months for the alien smuggling, a severe blow to Schacht’s criminal empire.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Schacht was no ordinary street thug; he was the mastermind behind an organized alien smuggling operation in southern Arizona. With a cold-hearted determination, he personally transported illegal aliens and coordinated with others to ensure their passage deeper into the United States. His reign of terror didn’t end there; during his smuggling conspiracy, Schacht also indulged in drug trafficking, shuttling 42 kilograms of fentanyl from Tucson to Phoenix.
