Today’s courtroom saw the chilling details of a prolonged sexual exploitation case come to light as 34-year-old Wesley Chambers, a resident of Fort Collins, Colorado, pleaded guilty to sexually exploiting a minor. Chambers admitted years of abuse and recording the harrowing acts, which authorities discovered alongside over 200 explicit videos and photographs on his cell phone.
The horror did not end there; investigators uncovered more than 20,000 photographs and 2,500 videos depicting the sexual exploitation of other minors. The court heard that Chambers also accessed child pornography on the dark web, including ‘hurtcore’ sites.
Chambers has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually exploiting a child and one count of possessing material depicting the sexual exploitation of minors. Sentencing is scheduled for October 22, with a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison and a potential maximum sentence of 70 years. The federal district court judge will determine the final sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Peter McNeilly for the District of Colorado, and other high-ranking officials made the announcement of Chambers’ plea and upcoming sentencing. The FBI’s Child Exploitation Operational Unit and the FBI Denver Field Office led the investigation.
