CLEVELAND – Davion Shepherd, 31, of Cleveland, will spend nearly 14 years in federal prison after being sentenced for his role in a drug operation that saturated Northeast Ohio with deadly fentanyl and methamphetamine. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Christopher A. Boyko, reflects the severity of the damage Shepherd and his crew inflicted on the community.
Shepherd pleaded guilty to one count of Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substances, along with three counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance. The feds weren’t messing around; the charges stem from a brazen operation that ran from approximately January 3 to February 16, 2023. Court documents reveal the conspiracy involved the distribution of at least 10 grams of fluorofentanyl – a Schedule I controlled substance – and a staggering 40 grams or more of fentanyl itself, a Schedule II substance.
When federal agents raided Shepherd’s residence, they didn’t find a small stash. They seized a massive 608.95 grams of a fentanyl analogue, alongside 34.13 grams of methamphetamine. That’s enough poison to kill countless people, and Shepherd was directly responsible for getting it onto the streets. This wasn’t some low-level dealing; this was a full-blown operation designed to profit from addiction and despair.
Shepherd wasn’t operating alone. Jerome A. Brown, 31, of Twinsburg, Ohio, also pleaded guilty to a lesser role in the conspiracy. Brown received a 27-month prison sentence and will also be subject to four years of supervised release after his release. While Brown’s involvement was less significant, it highlights the network of individuals profiting from the misery of others.
The investigation was a joint effort led by the Southeast Area Law Enforcement Task Force and the FBI Cleveland Division. These agencies worked tirelessly to dismantle the operation and bring Shepherd and his associates to justice. Assistant United States Attorney Payum Doroodian, of the Northern District of Ohio, successfully prosecuted the case, securing a conviction and a lengthy prison term for Shepherd.
In addition to the 167-month (approximately 14-year) prison sentence, Shepherd will also serve four years of supervised release upon his eventual release. This case serves as a stark warning: those who peddle poison in Northeast Ohio will face the full force of the law. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing fight against the drug epidemic.
