A brazen heist at a Richland State Bank in Minden, La. has left a trail of destruction and a defendant facing serious time.
Frederick Charles Davis, 46, of Shreveport, pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing more than $30,000 from an ATM located on bank property, causing over $35,000 worth of damage in the process.
According to evidence presented at the guilty plea, Davis broke open the automated teller machine on July 13, 2012, using a power tool and a chain attached to the back of his truck. The resulting damage was estimated at $35,242.
The thief made off with $30,320, leaving behind a trail of destruction and a bank to pick up the pieces.
Davis faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine, forfeiture and restitution. An October 2, 2014 sentencing date was set.
The FBI conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Allison D. Bushnell prosecuting the case.
U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley announced the guilty plea, bringing closure to a case that highlighted the brazen nature of financial crimes in the region.
