LAKE CHARLES, La. — The United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown has announced a significant sentence in the city of Lake Charles. Lequentin Williams, 26, from Shreveport, was handed down a 36-month prison term, with an additional 3 years of supervised release for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Williams’ criminal history includes attempted illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled and dangerous substance, indecent behavior of a juvenile, second degree battery, and aggravated flight from an officer. The sentence stems from an incident on January 15, 2021, where he was stopped by law enforcement officers during a traffic stop. A Glock .45 caliber handgun was discovered in his vehicle, leading to Williams’ confession that he owned the firearm despite being prohibited due to his prior felony convictions.
The ATF and the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force conducted the investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Jamilla A. Bynog handling the prosecution. Williams pleaded guilty on October 5, 2022, to the charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
In another high-profile case out of Louisiana, Glenn Ray LaSalle, Jr., 23, of New Orleans, was also sentenced for illegal possession of a firearm. LaSalle received a 50-month prison term followed by 3 years of supervised release. His arrest came after a traffic stop on November 20, 2021, where he was found with a Glock .40 caliber handgun during a routine Louisiana State Police check.
LaSalle’s prior felony convictions include aggravated flight from an officer and possession of stolen things, which prohibited him from possessing firearms. The ATF and the Louisiana State Police investigated this case, and Assistant United States Attorney John W. Nickel prosecuted it.
The sentences highlight the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat illegal firearm possession in Louisiana and the severe penalties faced by individuals who violate federal laws governing firearms.
