Shuntario Johnson, Armed Robbery and Cocaine Trafficking, Tennessee 2018

MEMPHIS, TN – A five-year investigation has come to an end, and one of the key players is behind bars for his role in an armed robbery crew and drug trafficking organization. Shuntario Johnson, 38, has been sentenced to 371 months in federal prison for his involvement in a conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, carjacking and aiding and abetting an attempted robbery.

On January 9, 2018, Johnson and an unknown male subject, identified as his brother-in-law, targeted a victim, ‘R.S.’, who was driving them to acquire marijuana from an apartment complex in Memphis. After acquiring the marijuana, Johnson displayed a silver semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at ‘R.S.’, demanding he hand over his valuables. ‘R.S.’ was ordered out of the vehicle and fled on foot, but Johnson fired multiple shots at him.

Johnson’s actions were part of a larger conspiracy, which involved a five-member armed robbery crew targeting narcotics traffickers in the Memphis area. The crew, consisting of Marcus Danner, 39, Quintez Agnew, 34, John Lott, 30, and Crystal Deener, 26, was responsible for multiple robberies and attempted robberies, including the carjacking that left ‘R.S.’ shaken.

During the investigation, agents seized multiple firearms, approximately $2,000 in U.S. currency, and approximately 28 grams of crack cocaine. The evidence presented in court showed that Johnson and his co-defendants were involved in a conspiracy to rob drug dealers in Memphis, with Lott and Deener also facing charges for their roles in tampering with evidence.

The sentences handed down to the five defendants total 1,143 months in prison. Shuntario Johnson’s 371-month sentence is just one piece of the puzzle, as the other defendants receive their own sentences. This case serves as a reminder of the dangers of armed robbery and the consequences of engaging in such activities.

U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant for the Western District of Tennessee announced the sentences, highlighting the importance of holding individuals accountable for their crimes. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and other state and local agencies.
