A 41-year-old Sioux City man, Isidro Jaramillo, pleaded guilty in federal court on November 17, 2021, to trafficking massive quantities of methamphetamine across northwest Iowa. The admission marks the latest chapter in a long criminal pattern tied to one of the region’s most potent drug networks.
Jaramillo admitted to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute. In March 2021, he sold six pounds of the powerful stimulant to an undercover law enforcement officer for $10,000. The exchange was part of a targeted operation by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, which moved in swiftly after the transaction.
Agents executed a search warrant at Jaramillo’s residence, where they recovered approximately three additional pounds of methamphetamine and nearly $10,000 in cash — the same amount used to purchase the initial six-pound shipment. The seizure underscores the scale and financial reach of Jaramillo’s operation.
This is not Jaramillo’s first run-in with federal drug charges. He was previously convicted in the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska, Case No. 09-CR-00422, on identical charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine — a fact that will likely weigh heavily at sentencing.
Jaramillo now faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in federal prison, with a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment. He could also be fined up to $20,000,000 and be placed on supervised release for 10 years to life following any prison term. Sentencing, presided over by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand, will be scheduled after a presentence investigation report is completed.
Jaramillo remains in custody of the United States Marshal. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ron Timmons and investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force — a multi-agency coalition including the DEA, Sioux City Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, and several other regional and federal law enforcement bodies. Case file 21-4021 is available through the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa’s electronic filing system.
