A Sioux City man has been sentenced to 25 months in federal prison for illegally possessing two stolen firearms.
Criston Nunez-Morris, 21, was sentenced to 25 months’ imprisonment by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand on April 8, 2022, for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
The evidence presented during the plea and sentencing hearings showed that Nunez-Morris was an unlawful user of marijuana, cocaine, and ecstasy when he knowingly possessed the two guns, along with ammunition.
The guns were stolen, and Nunez-Morris admitted to possessing them in connection with his felonious drug trafficking. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, and a digital scale.
Nunez-Morris was investigated by the Sioux City Police Department, Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an evidence-based program aimed at reducing violent crime. Nunez-Morris is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
He must also serve a two-year term of supervised release after his prison term, with no parole available in the federal system.
