Sioux Falls Duo Charged in Marijuana Bust

Two Sioux Falls men, Dalton Rogers and Ryan Quarve, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for their alleged involvement in a marijuana and hashish distribution ring.

According to the indictment, Rogers, 23, and Quarve, 23, knowingly and intentionally possessed marijuana and hashish with the intent to distribute them. The indictment was handed down on January 15, 2014.

The charges were made public after a traffic stop by the South Dakota Highway Patrol on October 18, 2013, in Lyman County, South Dakota. During the stop, authorities found evidence of the duo’s alleged involvement in the distribution of marijuana and hashish.

The maximum penalty for the charges, if convicted, is 5 years of custody and/or a $250,000 fine, at least 2 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

Rogers and Quarve were released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not been set. The investigation is being conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller.

The charges against Rogers and Quarve are merely an accusation, and they are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty. The case is ongoing, and further developments will be reported as they become available.

In related news, the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force has been working to combat the growing problem of marijuana and hashish distribution in the region. The task force has been successful in disrupting several large-scale distribution rings in recent years.
