A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for distributing and receiving child pornography.
Jason Jorgenson, 33, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on August 2, 2018, following a guilty plea on April 2, 2018, to charges of distribution and receipt of child pornography.
Jorgenson was a repeat felon who had previously served a four-year prison sentence for a child exploitation felony conviction in September 2016. He had been released from prison just a year prior to his latest offenses.
According to court documents, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) generated two cyber-tips about child pornography being distributed from Jorgenson’s residence in Sioux Falls in December 2016 and January 2017.
An investigation by Homeland Security Investigations revealed that Jorgenson was using multiple internet accounts to receive and distribute digital files of child pornography, often using false names to conceal his identity.
Jorgenson was also ordered to pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and forfeit his cell phone. He will be subject to 10 years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff Clapper prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Homeland Security Investigations of the Department of Homeland Security and the South Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Jorgenson was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
