A sex offender has been sentenced for failing to register in Nebraska, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect the public from those who would harm children. Sire English, 26, was sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment by the Honorable Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. for his failure to register as a sex offender.
English had previously been convicted in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, of enticing a minor in 2013. This conviction required him to register as a sex offender for ten years, which he initially did in Iowa and later in Arkansas before moving to Omaha in December 2016.
However, English failed to register with the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry, and was subsequently arrested by the United States Marshal’s Office in June 2017.
The case against English was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the federal government to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
English’s sentence includes a five-year term of supervised release after his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system, ensuring that he will face the full consequences of his actions.
The sentencing of Sire English serves as a reminder of the importance of registering as a sex offender and the severe consequences that follow for those who fail to do so.
