Breathless Betrayal on the Streets of Long Island: Fentanyl Trafficking Ring Busted

Grave news for Long Island residents as six individuals have been indicted for conspiring to distribute and possess more than 100 kilograms of controlled substances, including heroin and fentanyl, on the island and in New Jersey. The indictment was unsealed in federal court in Central Islip, revealing a chilling tale of betrayal and greed.

At the center of the conspiracy are Anthony Cyntje, a New Jersey correction officer, Anthony Leonardi, his brother Robert Leonardi, William Junior Maxwell II, the rap artist also known as Fetty Wap, Brian Sullivan, and Kavaughn Wiggins. Five of the defendants are also charged with using firearms in connection with drug trafficking.

An investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in partnership with the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Suffolk County Police Department, uncovered a trail of deceit and corruption that ran thousands of miles from the West Coast to the communities of Long Island.

The indictment alleges that the defendants transported, distributed, and sold massive quantities of deadly and addictive drugs, including heroin and fentanyl, on Long Island, causing irreparable harm to the community.

“As alleged, the defendants transported, distributed and sold more than 100 kilograms of deadly and addictive drugs, including heroin and fentanyl, on Long Island, deliberately contributing to the opioid epidemic that has devastated our communities and taken too many lives,” stated United States Attorney Breon Peace.

The indictment also reveals that the defendants employed the use of firearms to protect their illicit narcotics operation, posing a significant threat to public safety.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between federal and local law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Suffolk County Police Department. The indictment serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of fentanyl trafficking and the importance of law enforcement working together to combat this scourge.

The defendants will face trial before a federal judge, with Anthony Leonardi, Robert Leonardi, Cyntje, Maxwell, Sullivan, and Wiggins facing serious charges, including conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and using firearms in connection with drug trafficking.

This case serves as a testament to the dedication and perseverance of law enforcement in the face of overwhelming odds, and a clear warning to those involved in fentanyl trafficking that they will be held accountable for their crimes.
