Man Admits to Unlawful Possession of Firearms
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A 49-year-old Augusta man is facing the consequences for failing to report to serve his federal sentence after pleading guilty to a firearms charge.
James Albert Slonaker, a Hampshire County resident, was sentenced in January 2018 to 46 months incarceration for his role in a firearms charge.
Slonaker was to self-report to begin serving the sentence on February 21, 2018, but failed to surrender. The United States Attorney’s Office announced that Slonaker admitted to the failure to report.
The case stems from a January 2017 incident in Hampshire County, where Slonaker was found in possession of a .22 caliber revolver, a .357 magnum revolver, two .22 caliber rifles, a .30-06 caliber rifle, and a Rossi firearm frame/receiver.
Slonaker had previously been convicted in the Circuit Court of Frederick County, Virginia, of the same charge.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara K. Omps-Botteicher is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, with the United States Probation Office and the United States Marshal Service leading the investigation.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the proceedings.
