Jesse Allen Lindsey, Hate Crime Assault, California 2021

A Southern California man, Jesse Allen Lindsey, 37, has been charged with a hate crime for allegedly attacking an Asian American woman in Culver City. The incident took place on June 14, 2021, when Lindsey, then following the victim and shouting racial slurs at her, reportedly punched the woman in the head, causing her to fall and sustain serious injuries.

Lindsey, who is currently serving time in state prison for an unrelated conviction, faces a maximum of ten years in federal prison if convicted. United States Attorney Martin Estrada emphasized that hate-fueled violence has no place in society, noting the strength of diversity in the area and the commitment to combating intolerance.

The FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office Acting Assistant Director Krysti Hawkins stated that the victim was attacked solely based on her appearance, highlighting the agency’s dedication to protecting civil rights. Lindsey fled the state after learning law enforcement was investigating the incident as a hate crime.

Culver City Police Chief Jason Sims praised the department’s efforts in identifying and locating the suspect, emphasizing that hate has no place in Culver City. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lindsey Greer Dotson of the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section.

Lindsey is expected to appear in federal court shortly. An indictment is merely an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
