Solomon Newcomb, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Indiana 2024

A Rochester man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Solomon Newcomb, 30, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty to 146 months in prison, followed by 4 years of supervised release, for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine.

Newcomb was arrested on September 22, 2024, after officers pulled over a car in which he was a passenger. He ran from the scene but was caught and arrested. Officers found Newcomb’s backpack, which contained approximately 150 grams of methamphetamine, as well as an AR-style rifle and over 300 rounds of ammunition in his bags.

‘Newcomb possessed and intended to distribute methamphetamine while heavily armed—a dangerous mix,’ said Acting United States Attorney M. Scott Proctor. ‘Thanks to the work of Fulton County officers and our team of investigators and prosecutors, Newcomb has been held accountable for trying to dispense this exceedingly harmful drug in our District.’

The case was investigated by the Office Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with assistance from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Joseph P. Falvey prosecuted the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Newcomb’s sentence is a result of his guilty plea and the evidence presented in the case. The exact amount of methamphetamine found in his backpack and the number of rounds of ammunition recovered are a testament to the severity of the charges against him.

The case highlights the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and violent crime in the community. Through programs like PSN, law enforcement agencies work closely with community-based organizations to prevent violence and reduce crime.
