Springfield Man Caught in Cocaine Crackdown
A 44-year-old Springfield man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for his involvement in a crack cocaine distribution ring.
Senior U.S. District Judge Richard Mills handed down the sentence to Patrick B. Wallace for dealing crack cocaine in late 2011. Wallace was also sentenced to an additional 5 years for violating the terms of his supervised release.
At the time of the 2011 offense, Wallace was still under supervised release for a prior federal conviction in 1994 for conspiracy to distribute cocaine. He had previously been sentenced to 16 years and 8 months in federal prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release.
A jury convicted Wallace of possession with intent to distribute 28 or more grams of crack cocaine in Springfield in December 2011. The evidence presented at trial showed that Wallace was responsible for distributing substantial quantities of crack cocaine in the area.
During a search of Wallace’s home in the 700 block of N. 14th Street, officers discovered a large privacy fence, an alarm system with outside surveillance cameras, and a 73-inch flat-screen television screen monitoring the cameras. They also recovered over half a kilogram of cocaine and crack, as well as marijuana, a handgun, and $4,300 in cash.
The investigation was conducted by the Springfield Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy A. Bass prosecuting the case.
Wallace’s repeat offense has raised concerns about the ongoing threat of cocaine distribution in the community. The sentence handed down by Judge Mills serves as a warning to those involved in such activities.
