Bairon Ubeda, Possession of Child Pornography, Massachusetts 2024

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Bairon Ubeda, 45, of Springfield, Massachusetts, is facing decades behind bars after being convicted yesterday of sickening crimes against vulnerable women and a child. A federal jury found Ubeda guilty of one count of possession of child pornography, one count of receipt of child pornography, and one count of sexual exploitation of children following a grueling four-day trial. U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy has scheduled sentencing for November 24, 2025.

The conviction comes despite Ubeda already serving a state sentence for a litany of previous offenses: aggravated rape, abuse of a child, posing a child in a state of nudity, disseminating child pornography, trafficking a person for sexual servitude, extortion, larceny, assault and battery, and trafficking a person under 18 for sexual servitude. Clearly, incarceration did little to deter this predator.

Prosecutors laid out a disturbing pattern of behavior at trial. Evidence revealed Ubeda engaged in a years-long scheme, creating fake online personas and claiming to run a fictitious adult modeling company. He targeted women online, coercing them into sending explicit images and personal information. But the manipulation didn’t stop there. Ubeda allegedly threatened to publicly release these compromising materials unless the women complied with his sexual demands. For mothers, the threat escalated – he’d promise to report them to child protective services, jeopardizing their custody of their children. A truly despicable tactic.

The federal charges stemmed from Ubeda’s coercion of a woman into involving a three-year-old minor in the production of child pornography. He then knowingly received and possessed this horrific material. The details of the exploitation are being carefully shielded to protect the victim, but sources close to the investigation describe the images as profoundly disturbing.

Ubeda now faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison, with a potential maximum of 30 years, for the charge of sexual exploitation of a child. The receipt of child pornography carries a mandatory minimum of five years and a potential maximum of 20 years. Possession of child pornography is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. He also faces significant fines – up to $250,000 per charge – and at least five years of supervised release. Sentencing will be determined by Judge Murphy based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and federal statutes.

The investigation was a collaborative effort led by U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley, Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Michael J. Krol, Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi, and Springfield Police Superintendent Lawrence Akers, with assistance from the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lauren Maynard and Mark Grady of the Major Crimes Unit successfully prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative dedicated to combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.
